Here is a good one to think about.

Each year there are about 50 to 70 confirmed shark attacks and 5 to 15 shark-attack fatalities around the world. In 2004 there were 6.2 million accidents reported by the police, of this 2.8 million people were injured in car accidents and 42,636 were killed.

So, should we be more afraid of the shark or the automobile we drive everyday... you decide

Debate Opener:
Those are the absolute numbers but what about percentages of people relative to each activity. Ex. there may have been been 100 million instances where people took a motor vehicle out and only 6.2 million accidents (6.2%) but out of the 100 instances where people went swimming with sharks 60 people died. This may be indicative that swimming with sharks may be a more hazardous activity. Granted I have seen about 1 billion episodes on Discovery Channel about how 'not' dangerous sharks are so I imagine the conclusion is the same...
