Movies Based on Novels

Why are most great novels destroyed by Hollywood?

Harry Potter and the Half Blooded Prince was a dynamite book, but the movie was made for the youthful generation by making Dumbledore want to read a muggle magazine, and have corny jokes about being young and romantic. They also left out some important scenes at the end of the movie, including the fight in Hogwarts between the death eaters and harry and co., and the all important funeral of dumbledore.

Another novel ruined by Hollywood was children of men, the novel talked about all the men being infertile for a number of years. Since Hollywood decided it was a good enough story, they decided to make it impossible for both men and women to be incapable of reproducing. Another novel gone bad.

The last novel gone Hollywood was Prince Caspian. I love a good action movie but when it takes away from an adventure novel, like this one, it is not necessary to change a great family novel into another action, stereotypical herioc film.

All i can say is im going to stop reading books because when they do become films, 9/10 it is a bad representation of the great novel.

TV Shows #2

Posted by dannyp on 4/16/2009 08:19:00 PM in , , , , ,
Ok so i took a short break from thelast tv show post but here is number two.

This one is on one of marvels 21st century super hero cartoons, the spectacular spider-man. I feel that this is the response the the old spiderman on fox kids.

The show has successfully gone through two 13 episode seasons or high paced, spidey-action. I believe this show is by far the best representation of who spiderman was supposed to be. The only for me is how mary jane, not kristen dunst the real mj, was not intorduced earlier and has not been his crush to create a difficulty for peter parker/spiderman with his total affection for mary jane, gwen stacey, and the black cat.

The shows first season introduced how Norman Osborn and Tombstone with the expertise of Dr. Otto Octavious create super villians to control the city. Although time after time they all prove to be no match for spidey, especially when he is "Back in Black". They main villains in this season include Green Goblin (who is thought to be Harry Osborn until the season finale reveals that Norman is the real green goblin), Vulture, Hammerhead, the Enforcers, Electro, Lizard, Sandman, Rhino, Tombstone, Doctor Octopus, Black Cat and Chameleon.

The best part of the season and even the series was the three episode (20 min each in length) saga of when the symbiote takes over spidey and then the entire venom saga. I think this was the best because it really showed, unlike the 1990's and the terrible Spiderman 3 movie, how the symbiote affects the host. The final part when peter loses the symbiote is extremely well done and should have been the script for the spiderman 3. This mini saga also shows how the symbiote feeds off the host, when peter is taken over while asleep to fight the sinister six.

The second season is more of the same villains with Silvermane, Molten Man, Roderick Kingsley, Kraven the Hunter, Calypso, Silver Sable, Miles Warren, Sha Shan Nguyen, Cletus Kasady, and Morris Bench. The downside of the season as a spidey fan is when he dates Liz Allen instead of gwen or MJ! But whatever it was a great season that had come twists including J. Jonah Jameson's son becoming the "Colonel Jupiter" a terrible name.

The season hit a bump as Norman was revealed as the Green Goblin and then he dies in the same episode, or did he (check it out). The season finishes with a lot of gaping holes and leaves the door wide open for an exciting and fun 3rd season that expects the likes of the hobgoblin and scorpian to make appearances.

well theres a synopsis, very short, and a few points that i liked and didnt. I wont share more because i highly recomend you watch if you are a spidey fan or want a new cartoon to watch.

Nuff Said!

Pinzo's Book Review

Posted by dannyp on 4/08/2009 10:49:00 PM in , , , , , , , ,

Here are some great reads I have stumbled across lately.

Spider-man Handbook
Superman Handbook
Batman Handbook
-these are all funny to read because they allow readers to experience all the comic book excitement and teach them the necessary skills to become a super hero

The C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy
Book 1 -Out of the silent planet - a space travel to Mars where the main character discovers one of man's flaws in respecting the superior creature
Book 2 - Perelandra - space travel to Venus where the main character faces temptation and learns how to defeat it.
Book 3 - That hideous strength - I havent read it yet but it should be great, set on earth and it deals with the national Institute of Coordinated Experiments.

Graphic Novels include, y the last man: unmasked (volume 1), the watchmen (read before seeing the film), v for vendetta (same) and the killing joke (the last three were written by Allan Moore).

In comic books, the ongoing Ed Brubaker series of Captain America is getting better as Bucky took over as Cap and is facing his past. Wolverine Origins has hit an all time high as Wolverine faces his son, dakin, in hand to hand combat.

Ok that should be good for a first book review.
